YA Scavenger Hunt is On

So glad you made it.

Did you find the silver secret number on Ann Zoelle’s post?

I’m Dale Furse, your host for this leg of the hunt.

cca9b-dale2bfurse

Welcome to YA Scavenger Hunt! This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes! At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 72 hours!

You’re now hunting on

Team Silver

But first a few rules:

Directions: Below, you’ll notice that I’ve hidden my favorite number. Collect the favorite numbers of all the authors on the Silver Team, and then add them up (don’t worry, you can use a calculator!).

HINT: THE SECRET NUMBER IS HIGHLIGHTED IN SILVER!

Entry Form: Once you’ve added up all the numbers, make sure you fill out the form here to officially qualify for the grand prize. Only entries that have the correct number will qualify.

Rules: Open internationally, anyone below the age of 18 should have a parent or guardian’s permission to enter. To be eligible for the grand prize, you must submit the completed entry form by Sunday, April 3rd, at noon Pacific Time. Entries sent without the correct number or without contact information will not be considered.

On this hunt, you get access to exclusive content from each participating YA author and a secret number. Add up the numbers and enter the total for a chance to win a major prize. One lucky winner will receive at least one signed book from each author on my team in the hunt! But play fast. This contest (and all exclusive bonus material) will only be online until noon PST on Sunday, April 3rd!

There are nine simultaneous contests, and you can enter one or all. I am part of the SILVER TEAM, but there is also a RED TEAM, GOLD TEAM, ORANGE TEAM, BLUE TEAM, PINK TEAM, PURPLE TEAM, TEAL TEAM, AND GREEN TEAM! Check out all teams for a chance to win nine different sets of signed books!

Remember – 9 teams not 12!

If you’d like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page.

I am so excited to host (drum roll) …

Ripley Patton

The book Ripley is showcasing in the 2016 YA Scavenger Hunt is Ghost Hand

Dale here- Wow, I love that cover. I’m sure you’re as curious as I am about the book, so here’s some important info.

About the book.

Seventeen-year-old Olivia Black has a rare birth defect known as Psyche Sans Soma, or PSS. Instead of a right hand made of flesh and blood, she was born with a hand made of ethereal energy.

How does Olivia handle being the girl with the ghost hand? Well, she’s a little bit morbid and a whole lot snarky.

Her mother thinks her obsession with death, black clothing, and the local cemetery is a bid for attention. But when Marcus, the new guy in Olivia’s calculus class, stares at her like she’s a freak, Olivia doesn’t like it. And when her hand goes rogue, doing things she never imagined possible, Olivia finds herself running for her life with Marcus from a group of men bent on taking the power of her hand for their own nefarious purposes.

Top secret bonus material below.

THE REAL INSPIRATION BEHIND THE GIRL WITH THE GHOST HAND

One of the most common questions asked about my PSS Chronicles series is what inspired the idea of Psyche Sans Soma, the paranormal birth defect my main character, Olivia Black, was born with. I get this question from readers all that time, as well as many of them telling me I wrote the PSS phenomenon so realistically that, at first, they thought it was real and looked it up on the internet. And I think the reason for this is that I based PSS on something that actually exists known as Phantom Limb Syndrome.

You see, I had a friend who was in a bad accident and he had to have his leg amputated. Shortly after he was fitted for his prosthetic, I was over at his house and he was taking his first steps in the back yard. He got this amazed look on his face and said, “It’s weird, but I can feel the grass between my toes in the foot I don’t have anymore. And I had a cramp last night in the leg I don’t have anymore. My leg is gone, but my brain still thinks it’s there.”

When I got home that day, I did some research on Phantom Limb Syndrome and discovered it not only effects amputees but also people who were born without limbs in the first place. It seems, our brains are hard-wired to have a complete image of our body, even if that body never fully exists. And that fascinated me and sent me on a journey of imagination asking such questions as “What if children were born with visible phantom limbs made of energy? What special powers might those limbs hold? And how would society react to those who had them?”

And so Ghost Hand, the first book of my YA paranormal thriller series, was born. Since then, I’ve published book 2, Ghost Hold, and book 3, Ghost Heart, and I’ve just finished the final book of the series, Ghost Hope, which will be up for pre-order soon.

GET GHOST HAND FREE in e-book format at most major vendors to test out the series for yourself. It is also currently a featured novel on Wattpad.

Okay, I’ve given up on Rafflecopter. It just wouldn’t work for me. 😦
